New Favorite Group
Man these dudes are really doing it right now. I dont know who's idea it was to get them together, but whoever's it was is a genius. These dudes are the epitome of hip hop. Nothing but impeccable lyrics and flawless deliveries. Groups like this are gonna keep hip hop alive and well forever. Hopefully this will inspire others to do the same.
Check them out, this song is tough

Kanye on South Park
I guess you can say its a good thing that a member of the hip hop community was deemed important enough to be featured on the show. But honestly, I feel like they were making a mockery of him. I'll give it to the creators, 'Ye is a wild dude, and a diva, and I'm tight his ego is postponing the blueprint 3, but this episode was a little out there. And i think them making Ye look like this is a bad look for the entire hip hop community. I really dont understand how this show is really still on the air. I understand freedom of speech and all that, but JEWBOTS??? Really? Tv is really getting out of hand these days.

Soulja Boy Protested!
Soulja Boy was protested last friday at his show last week at University of Minnesota Duluth. A group of students said that his lyrics were objectionable and disrespectful toward women. Leaders of the protest made reference to one of his songs "Pimp Slap Dat Hoe" where he says "Pimp slap dat hoe man/Show her what you know man/Give her what she need man/Right side her face man." Soulja Boy kept fans up to date on his Twitter saying "WTF I'm in minnesota its a group of mafuckaz protesting my show this sh*t on all the news!!” “Mann these people better get the fuck on! I could have been In New York new jointing Turn My Swag On!!!!... They say I'm breaking a record for the people attending the show tonight, umma act a fool!!!!”
This shit gets me mad. I really tried to give Soulja Boy the benefit of the doubt when everybody else wanted to bash him and say he killed hip hop, but thats exactly what he's doing. I could rock with him when he said that he was doing his music for fun, he saw it as a way to get himself and his family out of poverty, but know he's crossed the line. Everywhere other than probably HBCUs, rap is not favored by administration and also the majority of the student population. Soulja Boy going up on stage as a "rapper" is making it seem like the bullshit he's doing is actually hip hop. And the dude actually had the audacity to try to get tough on his twitter talking about how "he can be in new york new jointing turn my swag on??" word, DOULJA boy??? homeboy needs to realize that artists are nothing without their fan base and he needs to avoid burning bridges. by all means, go get your money, just not at the expense of the rest of the hip hop game... there's people doing this that are actual real artists, don't ruin it for everybody else. RESPECT YOUR CRAFT
I think this picture says everything you need to know about soulja boy. This is the cover to the single that made this hip hop impostor's career. He had the freedom to choose any picture in the world to represent him and his project, and he chose to be on the cell phone (knowing damn well he not talking to anybody) with a hand full of money, the glasses with the white out writing and the infamous rubber band chain. Obviously he's in the game for the material shit. He said himself he made his music just so he could get out the hood. I say there's no problem with that SELLOUT, just dont try to claim the garbage you're creating is Hip-hop. I swear we need to create a whole new division of hip hop. We got gangsta, conscious, and Hip-POP. Thats it, i tried to hold of on my soulja boy rant, but after I heard this story, I couldn't help it.

R.I.P. KING MAGAZINE
Damn, just read on a few websites that KING magazine is shutting down shop... The economic crisis gave them no other choice, so they gotta call it quits... I always hate to hear when black owned, more specifically hip hop centralized companies don't prosper... They've had a good run, but I guess like they say all great things come to an end...
In memory, thought I'd throw up my favorite cover... Its Mrs. Stacey Martin... I mean Dash lol

Why I Rock with Lupe
I swear to god this dude is talented, no head, but thats why he's my favorite rapper. He proves time after time why he is one of the most versatile in the game. How many dudes do you know that could freestyle some fire to a wild beat like that??? Not many, I know... I went to see him at the Nokia Theater in Times Square a while back and it was one of the concerts i've ever been to. His stage presence is crazy. He had the fans in the crowd screaming out songs they wanted him to do, non stop screaming, and at most points in the show, he would just pause and have the audience anxious, waiting to see what he would do next. I put this up because I really look to Lupe when I'm looking for inspiration on how to carry myself on stage... Not to mention he's one of the best lyricists to bless the game.

FUR IN MY CAP
This song is dumb as hell, but for some reason I fuck with it... I think its a representation of how our generation is just trying to make hip hop fun... Homie is talking about fur in his cap, how serious can he be?

SMH DIDDY
I know I haven't posted in a while, but I thought I'd seize the opportunity and speak on something thats been bugging me for a minute... while I was on worldstarhiphop watching videos I came across this one, and it really got me kinda tight... i feel that Ness is a real dude in the game thats heavily underestimated because of his lack of publicity thanks to the MC graveyard also known as Bad Boy Records... Im sick of this man Diddy signing people to contracts and throwing them back up on the shelf to collect dust after one project... i was just having this conversation with somebody... like, look at the situation with the Lox... they just got royalties from like 95 5 years ago... i think diddy is a capitalist that just takes advantage of people while they have a buzz, then gets rid of them (WITHOUT RELEASING THEM) without trying to manufacture some more hot shit. DIDDY, STOP SIGNING ARTISTS TO THESE SLAVE DEALS AND LET THEM MAKE THEIR MUSIC!
heres the video

Review
A salary or reality? That’s the question artist Kritik solves in his performance entitled “Money or Respect.” New to the hip-hop scene, Bryce Martin, also known as “Kritik” is attempting to take the game by storm. He has been performing in talent shows and at open mic sessions in the Bethlehem area for the past several weeks. Being born in raised in Teaneck, New Jersey, Kritik is an artists that deals with issues in society along with those within himself. He creatively reflects his feelings into his writing giving a feeling of connection with the artist. Money or Respect is a piece attempting to enlighten the world of the dichotomy between salary and reality in hip hop right now at this moment. He uses numerous metaphors and various types of wordplay to get his point across intellectually, giving the listeners something to think about. Since the work is about the current state of hip hop, it is very relevant to Hip Hop today. Kritik talks about the measures some individuals in the industry go for money, and how it is not uncommon for the artist to compromise their personal feelings and points of views to do so. All in all, the piece is decent, i give it a 7/10. I see the potential that Kritik has, and can foresee him becoming a popular artist in the Lehigh Valley in the near future.

A letter to Professor Johnson
Kashi,
I really dont know what you're doing to me, but since the beginning of class, all that's been on my mind is hip hop. The time that was usually spend doing nothing is now nothing but tagging in my book and writing songs, 16s and poems. The more I learn each class about the history of the culture, the more I want to make myself a bigger part of it. I'm even trying to lean to beatbox like you asked us to. I'm trying to get nice by the show so we can shut the house DOWN lol. The more classes go by, the more I appreciate the decision I made to join. And dont get me wrong, im not the type of dude to ass kiss or none of that, so all yall reading this that got that on ya mind can fall back and hit your head on something sharp; i just give credit where credit is due.
Thanks Kashi
-Bryce

WAKE UP
I say its time to wake up, economy's in a recession
we better shape up, or it'll end in a depression
mothers leaving babies early, children thing their grown
got people flossing cars and jewels, before they own a home
hows that make sense? dont even try it cuz it doesnt
Just listen to my 2 cents, and maybe we'll recover
to the guys gettin fly, whose bread dont stack sky high
spend your cash on what you need, just to get you buy
to the thugs on the block, livin that G'd up lifesyle
Find a job in something else, if you enjoy your life out
of the pen, cuz wen you in, you have no type of rights
what type of man wants another tellin him wen to sleep at night
i know me, never slippin, dressed up freshly
bit of a short temper, snap quick if you test me
but my head's on straight, bow pointed to the horizon
got a million people with me, like the white dude from verizon
but back to the topic at hand
momma come back to your baby, he's your number one man
do the right thing, dont go the same way as brenda
thats a person, not a letter, no return to the sender
To the fam from BK, livin in the PJs
Eating off of food stamps, and shelter giveaways
Dont give up, I know you'll see some better days
Dad'll get a rais, Mom'll get paid
For the cooking and the cleaning, occupation maid
so we've spent time sleeping, time to wake up
get our life lines going straight, like a shape up

My input on recent classes
I really liked the Danny Hoch movie we watched.... he has a different type of delivery of his material that we havent seen before and i think its pretty cool... i even went as far as going back onto youtube to look for some more of his stuff... i liked all of the other artists we saw also... seeing the size of the culture and its popularity and history makes me want to become a part of it... i dont know what you're doing to me Kashi, but since the beginning of this class all ive been able to do is write, tag, and try to learn how to beatbox lol... im excited to see what else you have in store for us...

KRS-One, also known by numerous names is an individual said to epitomize the essence of an MC. Lawrence Parker was born in the Bronx, New York on August 20, 1965. His name appeared on the rap scene with his Boogie Down Productions counterpart DJ Scott LaRock in 1986 and made history from that day to the present. Also known as “Kris Parker”, “The Blastmaster”, “The Teacha”, and “The Philosopher”, KRS is credited as being one of the greatest MCs in rap. Growing up in the Millbrook housing projects, KRS often accompanies Hare Krishnas, places associated with a new religious movement associated with traditional Hindu Scriptures, and was given the name “Krishna” which then turned to “Kris” and eventually “KRS-One”. KRS-one became his graffiti tag short for “Kris Number One”. He then decided to use this name when he eventually found his way to the stage. He also created an acronym for the name, “Knowledge Reigns Supreme Over Nearly Everyone.” KRS-One and Scott LaRock met at the Bronx’s Franklin Avenue Armory Shelter where LaRock was a social worker. They began making music but at the beginning, were rejected by DJ Mr. Magic and Marley Marl, which eventually started The Bridge Wars. KRS and Scott were initially called “Scott La Rock and the Celebrity Three”. It wasn’t until the other two members quit that they formed Boogie Down Productions. The duo released Criminal Minded, their debut album in 1987. The album was said to set the template for hardcore and gangsta rap. Later that year, Scott La Rock was killed in a shooting trying to settle a fight beween D-Nice and local gang members. KRS-One also was credited with being the first MC to incorporate Jamaican style into hip-hop. Despite the death of LaRock, Parker wanted to keep Boogie Down Productions going and released By Any Means Necessary in ’88. KRS was responsible for H.E.A.L and the Stop the Violence Movement, sparking the “humanist” era in Parker’s career. He dropped the nickname “Blastmaster” and embraced “The Teacha”. Four Boogie Down Production albums later, KRS decided to work on his own. He released his first solo album, Return of the Boom Bap, in 1993. He worked with DJ Premier, Kid Capri and Showbiz creating the popular song “Sound of da Police”. In ’95, he created his second album, KRS-One. “Free Mumia” was a song protesting the persecution of hip hop by C. Delores Tucker. Surprising many, KRS came out with another album, I Got Next, in 1997. On July 6th, 2007, his stepson, Randy Hubbard Parker committed suicide by gunshot to the head. It was said that randy suffered from severe depression and a memorial service was held on the day that would have been his 24th birthday. Lawrence Parker is one of the pioneers of hip hop, his body of work displays the epitome of an MC. He continues to influence the rap game and will go down in history as one of the best EVER.
