Soulja Boy was protested last friday at his show last week at University of Minnesota Duluth. A group of students said that his lyrics were objectionable and disrespectful toward women. Leaders of the protest made reference to one of his songs "Pimp Slap Dat Hoe" where he says "Pimp slap dat hoe man/Show her what you know man/Give her what she need man/Right side her face man." Soulja Boy kept fans up to date on his Twitter saying "WTF I'm in minnesota its a group of mafuckaz protesting my show this sh*t on all the news!!” “Mann these people better get the fuck on! I could have been In New York new jointing Turn My Swag On!!!!... They say I'm breaking a record for the people attending the show tonight, umma act a fool!!!!”
This shit gets me mad. I really tried to give Soulja Boy the benefit of the doubt when everybody else wanted to bash him and say he killed hip hop, but thats exactly what he's doing. I could rock with him when he said that he was doing his music for fun, he saw it as a way to get himself and his family out of poverty, but know he's crossed the line. Everywhere other than probably HBCUs, rap is not favored by administration and also the majority of the student population. Soulja Boy going up on stage as a "rapper" is making it seem like the bullshit he's doing is actually hip hop. And the dude actually had the audacity to try to get tough on his twitter talking about how "he can be in new york new jointing turn my swag on??" word, DOULJA boy??? homeboy needs to realize that artists are nothing without their fan base and he needs to avoid burning bridges. by all means, go get your money, just not at the expense of the rest of the hip hop game... there's people doing this that are actual real artists, don't ruin it for everybody else. RESPECT YOUR CRAFT
I think this picture says everything you need to know about soulja boy. This is the cover to the single that made this hip hop impostor's career. He had the freedom to choose any picture in the world to represent him and his project, and he chose to be on the cell phone (knowing damn well he not talking to anybody) with a hand full of money, the glasses with the white out writing and the infamous rubber band chain. Obviously he's in the game for the material shit. He said himself he made his music just so he could get out the hood. I say there's no problem with that SELLOUT, just dont try to claim the garbage you're creating is Hip-hop. I swear we need to create a whole new division of hip hop. We got gangsta, conscious, and Hip-POP. Thats it, i tried to hold of on my soulja boy rant, but after I heard this story, I couldn't help it.
